Rain and thick jungle made conditions difficult for the Americans, but after an engagement with the main Japanese line of defense around Mount Barrigada from 2–4 August, the Japanese line collapsed. In an effort to prevent the Japanese from slipping through the American gaps. The Japanese had another stronghold at Mount Santa Rosa, which was secured on 8 Aug. The aftermath of the war after the U.S. had won the total casualties for Japan was 18,000 people were killed. For the U.S. only 1,747 people were killed and 6,053 people were wounded. After the U.S. had fought and pushed Japanese forces back to Mount Santa Rosa Japan was pretty much forced to surrender, and after they surrendered they vanished into the thick jungle, where it is reported that Japans government found a Japanese soldier living for the past 20 years.
Battle of Okinawi- The Battle of Okinawa was the last battle of the Pacific islands. Okinawa took place from April 1st, 1945 to June 22, 1945. It was also the largest, containing the 287,000 troops of the United States Tenth Army against the 130,000 soldiers of the Japanese Thirty-second Army. The United States was trying to capture vital air bases to invade Japan. In the battle, the Japanese went away from their usual tactics of resisting at the water’s edge, and instead, went deeper into the island. This strategy was to help them gain time. However, they also sent members on kamikaze missions in the airplanes. This tactic led to Okinawa being a much longer, and very bloody battle. To defend the island, the Japanese formed a series of defense lines where the air bases were located. The Japanese never attacked the US troops, but instead just defended their territory. Eventually however, the US troops broke through and forced a surrender. During this battle, for the Japanese over 77,000 soldiers died, and also around 100,000 civilians. For the United States, 14,000 soldiers died, although over 50,000 more were wounded. Also, during the battle both generals died for each country.

The Battle of Britain
In the summer and fall of 1940, German and British air forces clashed in the skies over the United Kingdom, locked in the largest sustained bombing campaign to that date. A significant turning point of World War II, the Battle of Britain ended when Germany’s Luftwaffe failed to gain air superiority over the Royal Air Force despite months of targeting Britain’s air bases, military posts and, ultimately, its civilian population. With this victory, Britain got a major boost and was now seen powerful after they defended their home turf.
Attack on Pearl Harbor
The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise, but Japan and the United States had been edging toward war for decades. The United States was particularly unhappy with Japan’s increasingly belligerent attitude toward China. On December 7 of 1941 Japan brutally surprised the peaceful place of Pearl Harbor with an early morning attack. During the war, there was supposed to be 3 waves of planes that was hopefully going to destroy all of the island. But however Japan called off the last wave, because the U.S. started to get planes in the air and fighting boats in the water. Japans military leader also supposedly stated that they had woken the sleeping giant after doing this sneak attack.
The battle of Normandy, June–July 1944
The technical complexities of putting huge, largely untried armies across the Channel and supplying them there were very great. The Germans thought that they had a good chance to repel any invasion. After D-Day Hitler chose to mount a stubborn defense of the Normandy region, and when the main American breakout came, in late July, the burned-out defending forces had no option but to beat a rapid retreat to the German border.
