Axis Power's Homefronts
Germany The German people gave Hitler total support. They were impressed after his resurgence of the German military and his early expansion. His early victories with minimal losses led to even more support from the people. However, after the war began to get bloody and Hitler kept insisting on expanding, the Germans began to lose their respect for him. There were many resistance movements set up in Nazi Germany as the war developed. Hitler used supplies from the countries that he invaded to help keep up the German economy. Also, they used the Jews, and other people in labor camps to help production. Women in Nazi Germany stayed at home and took care of their husbands and children. Family life was greatly affected by the Nazi Party, as German children had to become a part of the Hitler Youth. Also, the war led to tough times, and rationing was necessary. The German people were very affected by the totalitarian state of Germany during World War II. Allied bombing campaigns also had a large effect on the German citizens and communities. Also, Germany was very damaged after the war was brought to Germany in 1944. The German population also took a large hit, especially after the attempted genocide of the Jewish people.

Japan Japan was not economically or industrially strong enough to endure a long war with the United States. They didn’t have a high number of natural resources and relied heavily on imports. This was why their attack on Pearl Harbor was so essential to success for the Japanese. However, the attack was not as damaging as they hoped, and the United States recovered quickly. The Japanese citizens were only told about victories by the Japanese military. They had very little idea that they were losing the war until after the Battle of Midway. This led to the Japanese home front not having a huge effect on the war. However, in 1944, when Japan was invaded their cities were greatly damaged. Especially after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This affected the Japanese people for years to come.
